Great report you have there. Shame you won't be able to get to Glasgow.

One small thing I'd like to address. I've seen several people on LiveJournal talking about the Worldcon "masquerade ball". This is a misconception. What we call Masquerade is a costume contest, not a masked ball. We do love the audience to come in costume, but what actually happens at the event is that a lot of very talented people get up on stage, show off their costumes and win prizes. It is a great show (she says hopefully because she's helping run the darn thing in Glasgow), but very different from masked ball.

Of, and that costume display was in the ConCourse. I have lots of pictures and they'll be online at Emerald City in a week or two when I have had a chance to process them.
