It disturbs me to see someone so successful yet apparently so lacking in confidence that she can't ignore a freaking anonymous poster! Also someone who can't take honest criticism from an editor. As a NYC editor once told me, "the writer owns the work. Period. If you don't like the edits, you are not required to take them." Especially for someone with as much clout as Anne Rice! This editor, a genuine member of the New York Literary Establishment, was the first editor for a late thriller writer whose work is on movie screens now. The writer booted his editor (who, make no mistake, made him readable), because rumors were going around that the editor deserved co-writing credit! The editor said "absolutely not. I just cut adjectives." A LOT of adjectives, judging by this line he missed: "the plane descended downward."
Well done!
