new vid! Doctor Who, Handlebars

Our Vividcon Premieres vid is up now:

Vid title: Handlebars
Song artist: Flobots
Fandom: Doctor Who (2005)
Vidders: Seah and Margie (Flummery)
Vidder website: http://flummery.org
Summary: I'm the Doctor. Look me up.

Notes: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] merryish for the all the help, and especially all the baking, without which this vid probably never would have been finished in time. (she made us say that -- but it's true anyway.)

Right-click to download: http://flummery.org/handlebars/handlebars_dw_flummery.avi

There's a streaming version up on our imeem (http://flummery.imeem.com), but it's a little stuttery in spots and we're not sure why. Hopefully we'll get it figured out and fixed soon.

Imeem went boom, so we put a streaming version up on our site, which you can watch there or here:

ETA April 17, 2012: Our streaming vids are temporarily offline while we look into a technical issue. Sorry! The download still works, and we'll get the streaming version back up as soon as we can.

Wow. Just... wow. Perfect song choice and structure for the Doctor - this was amazing.

I love this vid so much. It was not just my favorite Premiere vid; it was my favorite vid from the entire weekend. Just... amazing. Thank you so much for making this.

Oh, my God! Thank you for posting this so promptly. It was THE vid of the con for me this year and I've watched it about 5 times already and it keeps blowing me away every time -- the perfect tonal shift, how it's both fucking terrifying and witty as hell, the fantastic mix of the literal and metaphorical... YOWZA.

Um. OMG. The last shot is the one that kills -- with a snap of his fingers -- but there are so many brilliant matches here I can't even name them all, except to say that Harriet Jones gave me shivers. The pairing of the fey and whimsical Doctor with the fierce song, and all those underlying images of his ruthlessness, just killed me. What a wonderful way to show him from all sides.

Oh, that was fantastic. Perfect choice of song, oh man. That really works for the Doctor, eh?

[identity profile] spectralbovine.livejournal.com 2008-08-19 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
I love that last shot too! I've never found it so chilling.

And the Harriet Jones shot was perfect.

And then all the fire.

Wow, this was absolutely amazing. [livejournal.com profile] cathexys told me about this vid and I was listening to the song today and trying to imagine it -- of course it's a thousand times better than I could imagine. The movement through the song is so powerful, as the stakes get higher and the Doctor's playfulness acquires a violent edge. I bounced up and down with glee, and my skin crawled.

[identity profile] rivkat.livejournal.com 2008-08-19 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
I have been listening to the song on repeat for the past couple of days, and the vid still gave me actual, physical shivers. I am so blown away I have nothing coherent to say, other than: this is why the Doctor creeps me the hell out.

[identity profile] devohoneybee.livejournal.com 2008-08-19 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
Simply stunning -- the full range of the Doctor's power, and all his uses of it, and all the things he leaves in his wake. Gave me goosebumps and that oh my god feeling as I was watching, even knowing the lyrics that were coming. Brilliant.

Wow... Just, Wow! I adore it. I really love the Dark Doctor section the best, but that's just me :)

[identity profile] eleveninches.livejournal.com 2008-08-19 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
This is really good. I like how it shows both the good and bad things about what it means to be the doctor. I agree with the other comments that the ending gave me the shivers.

Excellent.

How to say this and sound something like a sane person?

...I have been trying to say this in words for years. There have been maybe six people who even occasionally understood what the hell I was nattering on about. "Hey, you know all this crap Ten does? I don't like it. It goes too far. I don't think he's got the right and it's friggin' dangerous." "Hmm, that's an interesting take on his character." "No, really, seriously, it's not right." "Whatever."

Well, I don't know what you guys think of Ten or DW in general, but for even bringing this up... Thank you. Thank you so much. I am... god... almost in tears from gratitude right now. I couldn't explain why, but it means so much to me.

It would be an utterly brilliant and perfectly timed vid even if it didn't happen to push all my buttons. Seriously, I will bow to your genius forever. Thank you. *goes to pimp like hell to the six people who read her LJ*

Wow. That is... just, wow.

1. The clips went almost frighteningly well with the lyrics.
2. My desire to watch the new Dr. Who (already pretty large) has increased by a hundredfold at least.
3. I think I'm going to have to track down that song, too.

I am sure I'll be watching this vid over and over again. Fantastic.

I can split the atom of a molecule

Wow. The slow slide down from innocent glee into knowing abandon is downright sick. It starts out all wiggly fingers, funny glasses, smiles, then it gets heavy and irky at the "look at me" to "I can do anything...". I'm already hooked and flailing when the guns come in, the bomb, the years, the ugliness, the violence.

The clips in the second "look at me" make me cringe at the arrogance. From here on out I don't think I blinked. The lyric interpretations are great. Then of course it's the Doctor's glee at his fingersnapping that doesn't feel innocent any longer.

I feel like the shadows that pulled back after looking up the Doctor.

Well, that was pretty damn fine.

[identity profile] aworldinside.livejournal.com 2008-08-19 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
This was amazing. You built up to the ending so, so well. I didn't know the song and didn't see it coming and it blew me away. The clips also fitted the lyrics perfectly.

I don't think a vid has ever left me speechless before. Wow. The clips you used and the way you blended them together, building them up to that total sense of destruction at the end, was amazing. I'm blown away.

Damn, that's one scary Doctor, charming though he may be! Excellent vid, you two. Just excellent.

Extraordinary look at the aspects of the Doctor both making me smile and giving me the shivers. Wonderful work.

That is wonderful. You've just completely captured Ten there. And the Harriet Jones shot is glorious.

Really stunning! I watched on the advice not to find about the song lyrics first and Wow! The progression was brilliant and Ten's manic mannerisms and occassional dark turns are perfect for the song.

Been seeing a lot of recs for this all over the place & I have to say it didn't dissapoint!

Powerful stuff, great job!
