It is the 642. I'm not sure how to check the macrovision for you(but if there's something that I can toss in there to check it out, I'd be happy to). (the only av->dv converter I have is a canon camera that doesn't care if it's macrovision free or not because it sees all. I even hooked it up to a macrovision breaker once and it still said, "no deal.")
