Thanks for this -- it helps. I just thought maybe I'd missed something -- not malicious or anything, just a harsher criticism than I'd thought you'd intended. Merry's right, I do see it through a filter (a very bad one!), but I think I was reacting more to this idea of refusal to change, which isn't always the case. It's interesting that you'd wanted to progress fandoms, too, not just tech... I can imagine that would have made the work even more difficult!
