I just thought maybe I'd missed something -- not malicious or anything, just a harsher criticism than I'd thought you'd intended.

No, not at all -- it was really just about how people get used to things, and how their comfort levels adjust at different speeds. Me, I adjust to change about as slowly as is humanly possible *g* -- I hate it, I like my comfortable familiar things! I didn't understand why people were all "woo!" when word processors started up -- my typewriter worked just fine. Seah literally had to go out and buy me a DVD recorder so we could get better source to vid from than the tapes I was making, because I was perfectly content with my VCRs. Etc. *g* Once I adjust, I become totally comfortable with the "new" thing, but it takes me a while to get to that point.

So at core, the vid is just teasing... me, pretty much. *g*

More generally, fandom at large does have the usual human eddies of change and stability -- the switch to online is still happening for some people, with some people resisting it for years, while others have only ever been online; the switch to things like LJ is very much in flux right now, with some fans not even aware that there was ever a different way to do it, and some fans (like, say, me *g*) resisting the new way of doing things and clinging fiercely to lists; etc. A few years ago, the lone anime vidder who joined Vidder found that she didn't fit in at all because to the live-action vidders, anime vidding was strange and weird, and she wound up leaving; these days, people are all about finding out more about anime vidding and have eagerly embraced the anime vidders who come to talk to us. It's just the way humanity does things.

So, no, it definitely wasn't intended as a pointed criticism, and it definitely wasn't aimed at anyone. Sorry if it came across that way at all!

It's interesting that you'd wanted to progress fandoms, too, not just tech... I can imagine that would have made the work even more difficult!

God, yeah. We were both totally in love with the idea of doing it chronologically in fandom terms at first, but that fell apart *really* fast. I still think it would have been cool, but we never would have gotten it done in time for the con, and this was such a specific-to-this-challenge vid that we would have lost a lot of our drive to finish it.
