Our Vividcon Premieres vid is up now:

Vid title: Handlebars
Song artist: Flobots
Fandom: Doctor Who (2005)
Vidders: Seah and Margie (Flummery)
Vidder website: http://flummery.org
Summary: I'm the Doctor. Look me up.

Notes: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] merryish for the all the help, and especially all the baking, without which this vid probably never would have been finished in time. (she made us say that -- but it's true anyway.)

Right-click to download: http://flummery.org/handlebars/handlebars_dw_flummery.avi

There's a streaming version up on our imeem (http://flummery.imeem.com), but it's a little stuttery in spots and we're not sure why. Hopefully we'll get it figured out and fixed soon.

Imeem went boom, so we put a streaming version up on our site, which you can watch there or here:

ETA April 17, 2012: Our streaming vids are temporarily offline while we look into a technical issue. Sorry! The download still works, and we'll get the streaming version back up as soon as we can.

This is absolutely superb, the living embodiment of "sometimes I think you need someone to stop you".

The chilling progression from exercising power for fun; to being judgmental with Harriet for doing what he does all the time; to destroyer of worlds (all for their own good, of course) is beautifully laid out and cut with tremendous wit and panache. And you never forget that his saving grace is that he loves too.

And as for the way you used the throwaway moment from Forest of the Dead as a crowning clip - it gave me chills.

I love dark Doctor, when its acknowledged in the show as ambiguous and not all "the Lonely god knows best" and this video made me very happy. And a little afraid ;)

This vid blew me away, y'all. It was one of the standouts of my weekend. (Yeah, me and everybody else, I do realize that. *g*)

I don't watch Doctor Who; I've seen all of 2 eps. But I have some sense for the universe and the characters via fannish osmosis, and on Friday I was talking with [livejournal.com profile] laurashapiro about it, and she was noting that a lot of people seem to forget that the Doctor is not only adorable but also 900 years old and incredibly powerful and dangerous. Your vid took me from a place of "oh, hey, he's charming" to "OMG apocalypse" and back again, and I loved that journey.

Also the song is a total earworm and I think I have to acquire it just so I can learn something beyond the opening line which has been looping in my head for 2 days now. :-)

Wow. I just heard the song for the first time recently, and I never knew it was a perfect Dr. Who song until you vidded it. Fantastic. Really awesome.

Wow. This may be one of my favorite fanvids ever. You take the song and work with it so fabulously; the flow of images is just perfect, both at matching the lyrics and at telling a subtle, scary story. Recced here. (http://eponis.livejournal.com/361621.html)

Came here via a rec and that was brilliant. I've got shivers. I'll have to echo what others have said -- the match of lyric to Harriet Jones could not have been more perfect, and that last shot was chilling.

Did I actually manage to tell you that this vid is chillingly awesome, or did I just hug and babble a lot? Also, you guys are the queens of the perfect final clip.

Really excellent technical work, one of the best fanvids I've seen in that regard. In terms of content, I'm not sure where you stand on Ten (just as I don't know exactly where the show stands on him), but this certainly shows him to be the egotistical, hypocritical, petty, vindictive little creep I've always found him to be, in any case! His "power" is used in such a selfish way that it somehow seems small, even when it's destructive.

[livejournal.com profile] ficbyzee sent me. This is brilliant and makes me afraid of Ten, all over again. I'm also afraid *for* him here, which is something of a change.

Amazing vid. All the dark, scary parts of the Doctor (which are such an important part of him) laid bare. Fantastic use of the song too.

Words fail me. This was ... exquisite. I'd never heard the song before, but I can't think of a better one to exemplify who the Doctor is and your choice of clips sealed that deal. This vid is -- without question -- one of my all time favourite vids. Thank you for creating this and sharing it.

Wow, that was fantastic. I loved the way it showed all the shades of who the Doctor is, his humour and his power and the loyalty he engenders in others and so much more besides. Loved it!

I am so bad at vid feedback (I Do Not Get vids, as a general rule), but this was ASTONISHING. The lyrics match like they were made for it, and you problematize the doctor in a way even a vid-idiot like me can understand, and the sense of little-boy glee at the beginning is SO PERFECT.

I AM GIVING THAT A SLOW CLAP.

I think it was the 3rd or 4th time I heard that song on the radio that I actually listened to all the lyrics and went "whoa, this isn't just a silly, catchy song." My experience watching Doctor Who has been rather similar, in the way that the wacky fun adventures pull you in, but then when you really pay attention to it there's this dark rummination on power and how it can corrupt.

A seriously fantastic character study of the ambivalence of the Doctor.

To quote my reaction as I sat in my empty apartment for five minutes after watching this:

Wow. Wow. Wow.

The way you put this together, particularly as a statement about the Doctor, himself, is absolutely brilliant. The song lends itself to vidding, and the escalation in it is powerful on its own, but mixed with the increasingly destructive image of the Doctor, and particularly in the context the Series 4 ending, it fit in a truly organic (and more than a little frightening) way. Lovely, lovely job.
