We sent in two vids this year, one for Premieres, and one for the Challenge Show.

Our Premieres vid:

Jerusalem
Artist: Anouk
Fandom: Battlestar Galactica
Size: 48 MB

Our Challenge vid:

Walking on the Ground
Artist: Sheldon Allman
Fandom: Multimedia
Size: 32.9 MB

I have linked to the divx versions of the files here, but these are also available in Quicktime and WMV format at our page: http://www.trickster.org/vids. There are also smaller file sizes at this location.

The latter vid is a bit context specific, but we knew the audience at VividCon would be familiar with the source material, so we went for it. That didn't stop us from freaking out over it, though.

For those of you who squint at it and wonder if we're deranged, this year's Challenge was Milestones, in honor of the 30th Anniversary of vidding. Therefore, we tried for a vid that represented the history of vidding, the technological changes, the grumbles that naturally go along with those changes, and some of the spirit behind vidding. I am thinking about writing up more about some of our choices later.

I am thinking about writing up more about some of our choices later.

I, for one, would love to read that. When [livejournal.com profile] onnakitty and I watched the con DVDs yesterday, I let her watch "Walking on the Ground" through once, then I restarted it and explained the fannish vidding context as we went. She was suitably impressed. *g*

Trying to, certainly. She's a third-generation media fan.

She has vid ideas herself, but she keeps trying to sell me on making them. *g*

"Walking on the Ground" is one of my new favorite vids. I would love to hear more about how you made the choices that went into it; it made me laugh like a lunatic. :-)

Just watched "Walking on the Ground" and I'm sitting here with a big grin on my face.

That was just cool in all kinds of ways.

You know, we *hoped* that at least the people at Vividcon would "get" the vid (in part because we knew that some of the vids referenced within it would be shown at the Convention, and explained for historical context in tzikeh's Retrospective) so it's really great to hear that it's accessible on a wider basis, as well!

We loved "Walking on the Ground" (I missed it at the con and watched it for the first time with [personal profile] ellen_fremedon, and watched it two or three times, grinning like idiots.

"Jerusalem," seriously, may be my favorite vid from the con. The two of you are the hidden ninja masters of song choice.

This particular song came from [livejournal.com profile] marycrawford (Our sekrit dutch connexion!) who sent it over when I demanded new gym music of all those who were unfortunate enough to be present... *g*

and thank you!

I would love to hear you talk about Walking on the Ground. It made me absurdly happy, just from the history perspective, and it was funny and clever and a total thrill (and OMGWTF, the earth exploded!?) And I loved the little shout-out to Darkness, Darkness. ;-)

I know I spent hours in your room but I still don't think I told you enough about how much I loved Jerusalem. I felt like you balanced the fast and the dazzle with the story and the time for development and understanding perfectly. It was compelling and driving but never left me feeling like I'd missed anything, and I really felt like you'd hit all these aspects of BSG that I needed to see in a vid. Wonderful work, as always.

The Miracles clip was one of the very first we laid down, and it just never budged. *g*. Paul and the water tower were just so perfect for what we were going for (and that crash just went on and on...)

Thank you so much for your kind words on Jerusalem. We were fairly insane with doubts about both vids, (although, admittedly, more so for Walking, because it just seemed like such a weird concept in some ways).

I've been writing up notes on Walking, but I'd like to try and get a few con reports out first, before my soggy memory gives way entirely.

I wanted to say how much I enjoyed Jerusalem. I loved the explosion that began the vid and Sharon's circle in the beginning. I loved the transition from Sharon's hands to the hands on the picture to Kara/Lee and their hands. The transitions were all excellent.

I loved the "Get into Jerusalem" lyric of the president's inaguration and the "know for sure" quick cut scenes of Sharon.

I loved the "Things I cannot see" with the multiple Sharons and the Jerusalem/Kobol parallel.

Finally, the "time for me to go" shot of Kara leaving Baltar in KLG makes me giggle like an 8 year old.

Is is obvious that I loved this vid? Because I REALLY did.

I too would love to hear you talk about Walking on the Ground; I both loved it and was charmed by it, and I'm planning to watch it again a lot.

I haven't managed to gather my thoughts enough to post yet, but "Jerusalem" is a really fantastic vid. The song on its own is stunning, and paired with the vid -- it's so balanced, as someone said, between some of the big flashy shots of the show and the character development of three separate people. Definitely one of my favorites from this year.
